"Salt Lake City AMBER Alert Resolved: 18-Month-Old Child Found Safe, Four Arrested in Kidnapping Case"

An AMBER Alert issued in Salt Lake City on Friday night has been successfully resolved with the safe recovery of 18-month-old Josephina Jimenez. The child was located in a shopping cart, concealed under blankets, in the area of Redwood Road and Paxton Avenue. She was unharmed and has been placed under the care of the Utah Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS).ksl.com

The alert was initiated after Josephina's mother, 32-year-old Holly Angelina Smith, violated a court order by abducting her daughter. Earlier that day, a court had terminated Smith's custodial rights, transferring Josephina's care to state authorities. Despite being present at the hearing and aware of the ruling, Smith left with the child, receiving assistance from at least three individuals.ksl.com

Following an extensive search, law enforcement officers apprehended Smith and three accomplices:

  • Jose Francisco Robles-Prieto, 47, charged with felony obstruction of justice and child endangerment.

  • Joey Jimenez, 41, charged with felony obstruction of justice.

  • Eric Mathew Jimenez, 37, charged with felony obstruction of justice.ksl.com

The arrests were made after officers received a tip leading them to the area where Smith and the child were found. Smith provided false identifying information to delay her identification, but was eventually apprehended. The child was discovered concealed in the shopping cart, covered by several blankets.gephardtdaily.com

The Salt Lake City Police Department has expressed gratitude to the community for their assistance during the search and has emphasized the importance of child safety.police.slc.gov
